I am currently working on the site content. Please check it again later.

I'd like to put on this site information about existing wireless positioning projects as well as some of my research results in this field.

The objective of this research is to develop an ubiquitous positioning system by combining existing technologies such as GPS, WLAN, GSM or Bluetooth. I have measured the accuracy and the coverage of these 4 technologies in the city of Montreal, and concluded that GPS and WLAN technologies are very complementary. GPS operates outdoors with great precision, but has no coverage indoors, whereas WLAN can achieve great accuracy indoors, but suffers from a lack of coverage outdoors.

Based on these results, I have developed a positioning prototype combining GPS (used outdoors) to WLAN (used indoors). This prototype is able to continuously keep track of the user location has he moves in and out of buildings.

I'll post these results on this page later.

You can also read more about this research in a publication.
